ALL LEVELS WELCOME TO make some noise

Whether you want to learn a new instrument, build skills with one you’re currently playing, or take your rockin’ to a whole new level — we have a place for you!

OGR’s instrument instruction focus on bolstering confidence and creativity, supporting students of all ages to develop skills at their own pace on the instrument of their choice. Omaha Girls Rock uses the historical impact of women in music, diverse genres and popular music to help youth learn.

We offer lessons for guitar, bass, ukulele, keys, and drums!

One-on-one lessons follow the Omaha Public Schools calendar and enrollment takes each summer for Fall programming, and winter for Spring programming. After students register, OGR matches students with a Teaching Artist, keeping in mind instrument of choice, any instructor preferences, and everyone’s availability. We focus on collaborating with our students each lesson with benchmarks, goal-setting and mentorship.

Our instrument instruction lessons are available for youth, first grade - high school seniors of any gender. Youth under the age of 8 may choose ukulele or keys lessons. Youth must be at least age 8 at the time of enrollment for guitar, bass, or drums.

Group lessons for adults (19yo, or beyond high school, and older) are for girls+.

ADULT GROUP LESSONS

A focused 6-week session with no formal showcase. Session starts late February. Registration open now. Lessons are 60-minute, small group instruction (3-5ppl). Open to people who identify as girls+.

  • We will learn about rhythm and the musical alphabet, starting simple riffs and scales comprised of notes, that will help us familiarize ourselves with the fretboard and reading tabs. If ready, we will also learn the open chords that make up our musical alphabet.

  • We will go over the anatomy of the ukulele, how to play chords, and how to play those chords in songs. This class is recommended for those who have played the instrument very little or not at all.

  • We will become familiar with the basics of music theory and drum set by learning classic rock beats and applying them by playing along with rock/pop songs. This class is recommended for those who have never played a drum set before or require a refresher on drumming basics.

Fine Print: No refunds available after the first instruction day of the session. For 1-on-1 instruction: if students request an instructor, OGR will seek to meet but not guarantee any/all requests made by students. No guarantees are made to pair a student with an instructor and this is not grounds for a refund. If fewer than 2 students register for a group class, the student has the option to convert the lesson into a 5-week 1-on-1 and pay the tuition difference, or receive a full refund.
