FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

GENERAL

  1. Who is welcome to enroll in programming at Omaha Girls Rock? Summer Camp is for any youth in our community who identify as girls+.
    Instrument Instruction is for any youth in our community (5-18 years old). Adult Instrument Instruction (18+) is for any adult in our community who identifies as girls+.

  2. What is girls+? Those who identify as a girl, femme, trans or gender-expansive member of our community.

  3. What volunteer opportunities do you have? Please refer to our Volunteer page! We have many opportunities during the Summer and sporadically throughout the year.

  4. I’m too busy to volunteer, how else can I support? We take cash donations here or you can wear some OGR merch! Let your friends and families know about our organization!

  5. Can I donate a musical instrument? Yes! More information can be found here!

  6. Am I able to donate non-musical related things? Absolutely, we take a lot of craft items/office supplies/etc. Paper, Post-Its, magazines, markers and more! Send us an email if you would like to learn more.

INSTRUMENT INSTRUCTION

  1. What instruments do you offer for instruction?  We offer guitar, bass guitar, keyboard, drums and ukulele. If your child is under 8, they may choose ukulele or keys.

  2. What if I don’t have an instrument or the right gear?  No problem! If needed, we can provide you an instrument and supportive gear through our Gear Loan Program. (Please note our Gear Loan Program is unavailable in the summer while our camp is operating.)

  3. What ages is this available for? Ages 6 and older. (30-minute lessons are the only option for youth under 8 and may choose to learn ukulele or keys)

  4. How much are lessons?  Full tuition for a session of 1-on-1 lessons is $450 for 30-minute lessons and $750 for 60-minute lessons. Special pricing will be noted on registration pages for workshops, group lessons, etc. Summer 2023 prices are a five week session and will be $150 for 30-minute lessons and $250 for 60-minute lessons.

  5. What is your refund policy?  Tuition is non-refundable after the first lesson date of a session (example: for Summer 2023, first day of lessons is July 10).

  6. I can’t afford the full tuition, do you offer assistance? Yes!  If you are in need of tuition assistance,  complete our tuition assistance application before officially registering and paying. Also, we now are offering an option to pay in installments.

  7. Where do lessons take place? We conduct our lessons at St. Paul United Methodist Church at 5410 Corby St.

  8. What do I need to bring to my lesson? We encourage students to bring their own instrument (guitar, bass, or ukulele), but we have all of that available at the space just in case! Keys and drum kits are provided for those students as well as guitar & bass amps.

  9. What if I have an instructor in mind that I’d like to work with?  Awesome! Just make sure to mention who that is and we’ll do our best to match you with that teacher. We can’t promise though due to your schedule and teacher availability.

  10. I am a beginner. Can I still sign up? Of course, we are able to teach all levels from no experience to advanced!

  11. Is instrument instruction open to people of all genders? Our youth 1-on-1 lessons are open to people of all genders. OGR’s group lessons (teen and adult) are open to people who identify as girls+.

  12. Do you offer vocal lessons? Stay tuned!

  13. Do you have a list of your policies and procedures? Yes, check it out here.

  14. What if I’m the only one attending a group lesson? You are given the option to pay the difference and turn it into a shortened session or private lessons, or receive a refund.

  15. Do you offer a sample lesson? Depending on availability, we can accommodate, but the best option is try during the Summer for a shorter session.

Summer Camp

  1. Can I sign my child up for Summer Camp without having any previous experience with music? Absolutely!

  2. What if my child has experience with a certain instrument? Will they still be in a beginner class? Our lessons are typically split into 2-3 groups based on skill level (Ex. Beginner group class, advanced group class, etc).

  3. Do campers stay on their instrument year to year? Campers can select their favorite instrument the returning year (we try to accommodate first picks if possible, but no promises!) or they can try something new!

  4. Is my child able to bring their own instrument? We have all the gear provided for campers, but individuals can bring their own guitar, bass, or ukulele if they prefer. We will have amps provided.

  5. Is camp open to people of all genders? Omaha Girls Rock’s summer camp is open to people who identify as girls+ (girl, femme, trans or gender-expansive).

  6. Is food provided to campers? We offer snacks and lunchtime meals at Boost, Amplify, and Headliner camps. Snacks are available at our Kickstart camp.

  7. How do I apply? Visit the Summer Camp page and choose which camp you child qualifies for! If there is not waitlist note, you can make your payment when ready.

  8. Do you provide Tuition Assistance? Yes! After applying for camp, check the Tuition Assistance question box. After submitting an application, there should be a message that pops up with a link to the Tuition Assistance application.

  9. What if my child is in-between ages of different camps? It’s up to you and your child which camp you would like to be enrolled in! Each camp week has a different experience. We recommend the “older” camp or if your child has friends in a certain camp, choosing that week!

VOLUNTEERING

  1. Who can volunteer for Omaha Girls Rock? Anyone! However, we reserve spaces of leadership for anyone who is femme-identifying, gender non-conforming, non-binary, or trans.

  3. I identify as a cis-male. How can I help? We require quite literally a HUGE lift as we get ready for Summer Camp. We have our big load-in day before camp starts and load-out at the end of camp.

  4. What if I have no musical experience? This is only a requirement for Instrument Instructors. Any other position it is not necessary. This includes Band Coaches!
