ALL LEVELS WELCOME TO make some noise

Whether you want to learn a new instrument, build skills with one you’re currently playing, or take your rockin’ to a whole new level — we have a place for you!

OGR’s instrument instruction focus on bolstering confidence and creativity, supporting students of all ages to develop skills at their own pace on the instrument of their choice. Omaha Girls Rock uses the historical impact of women in music, diverse genres and popular music to help youth learn.

We offer lessons for guitar, bass, ukulele, keys, and drums!

One-on-one lessons follow the Omaha Public Schools calendar and enrollment takes each summer for Fall programming, and winter for Spring programming. After students register, OGR matches students with a Teaching Artist, keeping in mind instrument of choice, any instructor preferences, and everyone’s availability. We focus on collaborating with our students each lesson with benchmarks, goal-setting and mentorship.

Our instrument instruction lessons are available for youth, kindergarten - high school seniors of any gender.

Group lessons for adults (19yo, or beyond high school, and older) are for girls+.

  • Beginner Drums - We will become familiar with the basics of music theory and drum set by learning classic rock beats and applying them by playing along with rock/pop songs. This class is recommended for those who have never played a drum set before or require a refresher on drumming basics.

Intermediate Drums - We will explore beats with more complex rhythmic patterns, beats in different time signatures, and learn the basics of improvisation. We will do this by working on basic hand and foot rudiments and applying what we learn by playing along with songs from a variety of genres. This class is recommended for those who have played the drum set before and builds off of our beginner drum course.

Advanced Drums - We will focus on improvisation, ear training, and developing the drummer's individual "voice" by practicing complex rudiments and playing along with songs as well as live music. This class is recommended for those who feel familiar and comfortable with playing drums along to a track or with others, especially those who have played drums in the past year. This class builds off of our beginner and intermediate courses.

Beginner Guitar - We will learn about rhythm and the musical alphabet, starting simple riffs and scales comprised of notes, that will help us familiarize ourselves with the fretboard and reading tabs. If ready, we will also learn the open chords that make up our musical alphabet.

Intermediate Guitar - We will work with open and power chords, learning how to confidently move between them to play songs.

Advanced Guitar - We will use what we have learned to work in different tempos and timings, using more advanced chords and tricks (bending, vibrato, etc) to learn and create songs.

Beginner Ukulele - We will go over the anatomy of the ukulele, how to play chords, and how to play those chords in songs. This class is recommended for those who have played the instrument very little or not at all.

Intermediate Ukulele - We will go over chord memorization, beginners tablature, and memorizing a song. This class builds from the beginner's and will be a good way to expand skills before advanced classes.

Advanced Ukulele - This class will go over sight reading, intermediate tablature, and basic scales. This class is recommended for those who have a fairly good grasp on rhythm, chords, and have experience putting those together in songs.
